Welcome to Grove Lawn Tennis Club blog.
This blog has been developed to support the survival of what is probably Huddersfield's oldest tennis club having records going back well over 100 years.
Grove is in a good financial situation but requires more support in the running and maintenance of the club. The club has found a new secretary, treasurer and trustees.
Grove has some of the best courts in Huddersfield – beautiful shale courts due to the hard work of Fred Dransfield and a willing band of around a dozen members.
There are currently around 40 members at the club and the club welcomes players of all ages and levels.
Membership at Grove Lawn is £85 a year and use of the courts is unlimited outside of match times Anyone interested in joining the club as a member should contact Mrs M Ardley on 01484 682124.

Situated on Heaton Road, Huddersfield, Grove Lawn Tennis Club is a friendly club that is open to players of all ages and levels.
Facilities
- 3 red shale courts
- Open April - October
- Social tennis at all levels. Just turn up and play on Thursday evenings, but apart from match days you can play anytime. There is a charge of £5 for non-members.
- Match tennis (Tuesdays for men's and Mondays for ladies teams) in Huddersfield & District Lawn Tennis League.
- Facilities include a clubhouse with changing rooms
- Coaching available for adults and juniors, for all ages and levels

- I am semi retired but still keep active. I have played tennis since I was 14, first at St Bernadette's Whitefield, then English Martyrs, Whalley Range and for the last 27 years at Grove Tennis Club Huddersfield, where I still fill in when the team is short of players. Delighted with the progress the club has made in the last 3 years, going from a narrow decision to remain in business to doubling membership and returning to financial viability. This was due to a great committee who have worked tirelessly to promote the club. I chair the Huddersfield Deanery Project for older people and organise their "Walk for Health" group each Monday, departing from Deighton Station at 1 pm weather permitting. I have just retired as Chair of the Society of Dyers & Colourists, an international educational charity promoting the knowledge of colour. I am currently the Treasurer of the St Vincent de Paul Society in England & Wales.
